1937 DKW SS250 Engine Size: 250cc First Produced: 1937
DKW used a revolutionary design of two stroke engine in this model. It was called the 'split single' where two pistons ran in separate cylinders but shared one combustion chamber. |
1942 DKW NZ350 Engines: 348cc First Produced: 1939
Between 1939 and 1943 DKW simply produced its civilian NZ350 without making any changes to design or build, but in 1943 lack of aluminum led them to produce the NZ350-1 with cast iron pistons. This machine was used by the army mainly for dispatch riders. |

By 1952 DKW was ready to introduce a 250 cc model, the 11 horsepower RT 250.

1965 DKW Hummel 155 Engine: 48cc First Produced: 1956
Two-stroke mopeds with a three-speed gearbox and conventional styling were first produced in 1956. A radically revised version of the Hummel was launched in 1961 and ran until 1965. There were two models. The 115, which produced 2hp at 4950rpm, and the 155 model, which pushed out up to 4.2hp at 6500rpm. This was good enough to propel the little bike to 45mph but it was never an open-road machine. |
